We began keeping bees 8 years ago and they have been busily keeping us in honey. We continue to expand our Langsroth hives and it has been an amazing experience. We have dealt with several swarms and will continue to expand our bee yard. Perhaps next year we will also experiment with top bar hives but we do maintain hives in the tri-state area in Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Honey is a delicious sweetener made naturally by bees for their consumption .The process of making honey begins when the bees feast on flowers collecting the nectar in their mouths. Then mixes with enzymes in the bees saliva, in this process it turn into honey. The bees bring it back to the hive and store it in the cells of the hive. Until they need it for their nourishment or until the lucky beekeeper helps themselves.

Honey is composed primarily of carbohydrates and water. The Bees evaporate the nectar until it is only 17% water and also contains small amounts of vitamins and minerals. Honey contains a variety of falconoid phenolic acids which act as antioxidants. Generally darker honeys have higher antioxidant content than lighter honeys.

Our honey is available on the farm - by order and at Farmer's Markets in Maryland, and West Virginia as well as Panorama Restaurant and The Boonsboro Gift Shop.
